Intended for colleges, the Department of Education's Net Price Calculator requirement tool contains a wealth of information about how the government's official template is constructed.
This well-regarded site is chock full of information about financial aid. Its publisher, Mark Kantrowitz, is a nationally recognized expert on financial aid matters and is widely quoted in the media. Kantrowitz has also taken up the issue of how net price is defined in a policy paper which can be downloaded here.
